The Parent Confidence Journey

Every parent's football journey looks a little different, but the path to feeling confident, connected, and capable follows a familiar pattern. Our five-stage Parent Confidence Journey is designed to meet you wherever you're starting from and support you every step of the way, because when parents feel confident, kids play better football.

Stage 1: I'm New Here

Welcome to the touchline.

You've just started out in football, whether that's your child's first season, your first time on the touchline, or your first encounter with the world of fixtures, formations, and Saturday morning kick-offs. Everything can feel unfamiliar at this stage, the terminology, the routines, the unwritten rules of matchday. This is a completely normal place to be, and it's exactly where our journey begins.

At this stage, the goal is simply to get oriented: understanding how sessions and matches work, what's expected of you as a parent, and where to turn when you have questions. Moving through this stage sets the foundation for everything that follows, leading you naturally into Stage 2 as you start building real knowledge of the game.

Stage 2: I'm Learning

Every match teaches you something new.

Once you've settled in, curiosity takes over. You're actively building your football knowledge, picking up the basics of rules and positions, starting to understand coaching language, and getting a feel for how training connects to matchday performance. This stage is about absorption and growth; you're asking more questions, watching more closely, and starting to notice the finer details of the game. The knowledge you gain here doesn't just make football more enjoyable to watch, it equips you to have more meaningful conversations with your child about their progress. As your understanding deepens, so does your comfort in your role, carrying you forward into Stage 3.

Stage 3: I'm Feeling Confident

You know your role, and you're owning it.

With knowledge comes confidence. At this stage, you're growing more assured in your role as a football parent, you know what good support looks like, you understand your part in your child's development, and you're less likely to feel unsure or out of place around the pitch. This confidence shows up in small but meaningful ways: knowing how to encourage without overstepping, understanding what coaches need from you, and feeling settled in the routines of club life. This growing self-assurance is what opens the door to genuine connection, setting you up to move into Stage 4, where confidence turns into belonging.

Stage 4: I Belong

This is your community too.

By this stage, football isn't just something you attend, it's something you're part of. You feel connected to the wider football community: the other parents, the coaches, the club itself. There's a sense of shared experience and mutual understanding that comes from having walked this path alongside others. This feeling of belonging strengthens your commitment to the club and to your child's journey, and it naturally creates a desire to give something back. That desire is what carries you into the final stage of the journey.

Stage 5: I'm Helping Others

Now it's your turn to guide the way.

Having grown in knowledge, confidence, and belonging, you're now in a position to support other parents on their own footballing journey. Whether that's reassuring a new parent at their first match, sharing what you've learned about the club, or simply modelling positive touchline behaviour, you've become part of what makes the community welcoming for others. This final stage closes the loop, the same support that helped you find your footing now flows outward, strengthening the club for the next generation of parents who are just starting out at Stage 1.
